Circle Publication

Colour represents many things; it is expression, emotion, and nothingness all in one. it is open to interpretation, to whatever feeling resonates within an individual when viewing it. this is the basis behind circle publication. With an understanding and philosophy through it's creation; this publication is aimed to be open to individual interpretation. Attaining ambiguous poetry and literature, alongside beautiful landscape and natural photography this is an art piece within itself. Each edition is printed in a different pantone colour representative of the season by which the magazine is released, this in turn is a focus on the beauty and wonder of nature and its relationship with the way in which we as people interpret natures wonders. The name circle is a homage to the Enso symbol found within zen buddhism; representing the constant equilibrium of the world.

portrait (Untitled)

‘portrait (Untitled)’ is a series of illustrated portraits of strangers, made up people, self portraiture, and still life. Using an abstract, sketch book style; The overall production is designed to be a coherent conversation of random imagery, allowing the viewer to find narrative and emotion from the simple, abstract, and often comical illustrations produced with ink, marker, fine-liner and finger-painting. Printed in black and white, on an A3 format; this is a book of simple drawing and illustration attaining an underlying complexity of thought and imagination on how ones surrounding, and the people around them are abstractly viewed and interpreted.

YUPO

My intention with this project was to create a fun, interactive media that is representative of the pros of yupo synthetic paper and its uses. In order to make this representation I designed a small interactive broad bean-growing project. I used broad beans as the plant of choice as I feel it is representative of the papers qualities in the fact that it is extremely tough and resilient in most conditions. I felt this project has to have an extremely interactive and fun presence, so I have created an instagram competition within the project encouraging people to get excited about yupo. I used the colour green as the major representative module of the design as it relates to the recyclable and eco friendly nature of the yupo brand and products.

CHRISTMAS CARDS (HALLMARK)

What is christmas? that is the question I asked myself when undertaking this brief. The first thing i wanted to do was find three appropriate themes for each individual card, and connect the set with 1 common theme. In order to achieve this i decided that the common theme between these three cards should be the illustration style. I used linear drawings with a minimal style, using only necessary detail with each illustration. In order to capture the christmas theme, I incorporated a colour palette that was reminiscent of christmas, using a triad of red, green and white, and adjusting the colour opacity in order to create a soft feel to the imagery, I feel I have effectively represented what christmas is in Australia, New Zealand, and also in a more generic sense is.

INFORM FORM

The fundamental principle behind ‘1+1+1’ is to discuss the layered nature memory. It is a visual application of the inter-relationship of memory types, driven by the understanding that the brain attain three different functional layers of memory; long term memory, working memory, and short term memory. Memory does not necessarily reflect history. Memory is but the perspective and interpretation of one person’s understanding and experience of an event of circumstance. With this notion in mind, I aim to convey the layers of individual perspective that we add to the original event, moment or circumstance. The final outcome is what you see before you. A collection of images layered upon each other to create the narrative of memory. it is a conversation. a story.

PACKAGE DESIGN - UNDERS

This is a project based upon the idea of fun. I aimed to create a package design that was engaging both through its visual aesthetic, but also through its branding communication and wording. I named the brand ‘Unders’ using a umlaut as I wanted to create a Scandinavian feel to the brand, but also create word association with a western market by using the word ‘under’. The visual aesthetic of the packaging is highly minimalist, using geometric shapes and bold, block colour to create the visual language and communication. I created three different colour schemed boxes as I wanted to portray the variation within the brand.

FROM PEN STROKES TO KEY STROKES

The concept behind my work is based upon the idea of visual perspective relating to the idea that type is based upon shape, form, and the ways in which we view it; as oppose to the individual letters that make up the word. The basis of my concept developed through an understanding of the text given by the brief, finding that the articles views on the way in which type or visual language is viewed isn’t in such a straight forward manner as some may expect, but rather through recognition of shape and form. From this idea grew my concept of creating visual perspective through the use of type and shape together, giving the words a sense of actual meaning allowing the viewer to relate with or understand the words they are reading better.

REBRAND - JUST JEANS

This project focuses on visual Identity where we are to designed a fresh and new look for a chosen current brand of a fashion based on its characteristics and personality. The strategies I am undertaking to create the alternative identities is giving this outdated style a fresh image. Focussing on the fact that Just Jeans used to be the place to go to get your new jeans, as opposed to the current image it has of being just another clothing retailer. I aim to take it back to its denim roots in a fresh, creative and modern approach.

APP DESIGN - PARALLEL

My idea for the app started through my own experience with insomnia, having suffered chronically for the past 4 years I have found that it has been extremely impactful on my concentration and general well being in my university life. I chose to call the app parallel as it is an app based upon the idea of balance and finding those ‘parallels’ within each aspect of ones life. The colour choice was based upon the notion that I wanted the app to be visually stimulating for the user. being an app about organization and routine, it needed something to give it a sense of buzz and excitement. I used iconography and a very basic user interface as I felt making the app too complicated would leave the user confused and make the app less desirable to use.
